I remember so vividly in the depths of my depression a few months ago, @annehospers encouraged me to create from an energy similar to a journal entry. This resonated and whenever I have felt lost on ‘what’ to paint, I enact this into my art practice.
I guess I’ve inevitably intellectualised this process and realised that it is a release rather than desperate focus on composition or outcome, a quiet permission to be fully present with whatever arose and work with instinctual imagination as an ally.
Things seem to then click into place and I get so lost in the work that I have to be physically dragged away from it to eat or sleep (no seriously, the studio has no power and I was still layering on oil stick as the last light kissed us goodnight- see last slide lol)
This piece feels real and true. It brang me great peace and revoked feelings I had when I first started painting many years ago, absolute flow and freedom. An escapism that is actually healthy for the soul and allowed solace from my busy mind.
I hope the lucky owner of this painting is able to draw upon the intrigue of the grounding colours and textures as a way to incorporate some more still and quietude into their daily life. For, “to the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders” (Lao Tzu) ✨
